$5 Dinner Mom Cookbook Review and Giveaway

(Giveaway now closed.)

I recently received a complimentary copy of a new cookbook that hit the stores only yesterday. Now I love a cookbook but I'm picky. It has to be appealing, organized correctly, contain recipes that a mom has time to make, as well as recipes that won't have me running to a bailed out bank for a loan in order to buy the ingredients. This cookbook met all of my criteria.
The $5 Dinner Mom Cookbook, by Erin Chase, is great for those of us who want to get a homecooked meal on the table in a limited amount of time and with a limited budget. Erin is a blogger who gained a loyal following by chronically her quest to feed her family of four on $5 meals. Now that she has appeared on Rachel Ray, in Woman's Day, on Good Morning America, and multiple other media outlets, she is releasing a cookbook so that we can all have access to her success.

When I received my copy, I was immediately impressed that Erin has not only prepared a recipe for under $5, she has also included side dishes to round out the meal in this price. And each ingredient's price is listed in the recipe! I just loved that feature. You know you're probably not going to need to buy a jar of capers for 1/4 teaspoon in a recipe in a book like this. No nonsense. I love it.

So far, I've flagged numerous recipes I want to try. The only two I've had time to try is a chicken recipe I made for my extremely picky sons which they declared "the best chicken you've made, Mom", and the Carolina pulled pork sandwiches which my kids also gobbled up in record time. There's also a nice vegetarian section for their dad and me.

Some of Erin's favorite recipes include:

  • North Carolina Pulled Pork Sandwiches – $4.90
  • Apple Dijon Pork Roast – $4.30
  • Orange Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry – $4.94
  • Creamy Lemon Dill Catfish – $4.95
  • Bacon-Wrapped Apple Chicken – $4.96
  • Country Ribs with Oven Fries – $4.77
You can check out Erin's website at $5Dinners.com and order from her site or through all the major booksellers. Additionally, the publishing company is providing one copy for a lucky Suburb Sanity reader. Wouldn't that be a wonderful way to start the new year with some great recipes that won't break the bank?

To enter, just leave me a comment telling me you'd like to have a copy of the cookbook.

I would like to have a copy of this for BabyGirl, who - truth be told - is a terrible cook. Somehow YoungSon got the cooking genes and now we're trying to fix the problem.

Pick me!!!!

Pulled pork...is there any OTHER reason?
thank you and Merry Christmas
(ps: you will want to start asking for emails. I learned this the hard way when I started doing giveaways and I had to really track someone down who didn't read their comments)

Ooooo I love cookbooks. And I love cookbooks where I can cook from them better. And cookbooks for reasonably priced meals? I do believe that's the trifecta. Way cool!
